Following the killing of a school girl in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos and that of the footballer, Kazeem, in
Sagamu, by the SARS operatives and many other incidents caused by them… the security
analyst and senior journalist, Christopher Oji says: ‘the killing of innocent people is
condemnable and has become unbearable.
He says the authority should either reorganize or scrap the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
He advised that the caliber of people given guns be checked and that they be properly trained
on how to use arms. He said that the authorities should advise against the intake of alcohol
whenever the SARS operatives are going on operation. He further buttressed the point that the
SARS operatives be retrained, reorganized and that cool-headed and educated people be put
there.
He says: ‘Put the right person in the right units and most of these problems will be solved.’
Another security expert, Felix Ugbechie, said: ‘the killing of the footballer is sad, we are talking
about youths and a particular institution is reducing the strength and number by day. He, then,
urged government to warn the Police to stop shortening the lives of innocent youths.
In light of the incident surrounding the death of the footballer, Kazeem, SARS has been
reformed and a couple of new rules of engagements have been laid out by the Inspector
General of Police to be followed by these SARS operatives on their operations.
First, No SARS personnel is allowed to interface in any civil matter.
They are not allowed to interfere in cyber-crime, popularly known as yahoo yahoo.
No SARS personnel is allowed to conduct a stop and search exercise unless there is a distress
call from victims or members of the public.
They are not allowed to be involved in commercial matters of any sort such as debt recovery or
a landlord vs Tennant issues.
They are not allowed to interfere in any social/relationship cases (marital matters, boyfriend /
girlfriend relationship).
The Inspector General of Police clearly points out that THEY ARE STRICTLY FOR ARMED
ROBBERY AND KIDNAPPING CASES! Additionally, tips on how to identify fake Police men at a
glance were given to help educate the people.
While trying to identify who’s the real police officer, you need to take note of the following
details.
The Number tag of a real policeman must be six digits less than six is fake.
Only female police officers have their numbers begin with "0", any policeman with number
beginning with "0" is fake.
Every police officer's name tag is woven to the shirt as there are no more removable name tags.
A distinction between a normal police officer and a SPY (supernumerary) police personnel is
that a "SPY" number must be either three or four digits with the word "SPY" boldly inscribed on
their uniform shoulder.
The people are therefore advised to always roll up your windows in traffic, central lock your
doors please at night.
When stopped by Police officers, be double sure they are true policemen, if they are not, be
strong and speed off or hit them, Never get frightened.
Be watchful, they are everywhere, educate your family members and friends. KNOW YOUR
RIGHTS PEOPLE! AND LET NIGERIA BE GREAT AGAIN!
